- Luke 9 -
And He said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
Then He said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? If anyone is ashamed of me or my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels."
To go after Him means what? To deny one's self. To take up one's cross (daily!). To follow Him.
He's asking me to do what HE did. To be willing to suffer or to be rejected, to die.
He denied self. "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will but yours be done." (ch. 22)
He took up His cross.
He wants me to do the same, and then follow Him.
Where?
To the place He took His cross.
"I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Whoever serves me must FOLLOW me; and where I am my servant will also be.
Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was
for this very reason
I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!"
